ONLINE LESSONS

Online vocal lessons via Zoom, Skype & Facetime

Unable to attend lessons in person? Prefer to sing from the comfort of your own home? No problem!

There are many reasons why you may prefer online lessons to in-person, and you don't need any fancy equipment to do so.

Alicia began teaching online in March 2020 and hasn't stopped since. You may be anxious to attend in-person and like to start online before transitioning to face-to-face. You may find it fits in with your daily schedule a lot better. Or you simply live very far away!

WHAT YOU DO NEED FOR ONLINE LESSONS

- a good internet connection

- a device with a camera and microphone

- a separate device to play your tracks and exercises

- space to stand, move and sing without distractions!

- Zoom, Skype, or FaceTime

WHAT TO EXPECT IN YOUR FIRST ONLINE VOCAL LESSON

As with in-person lessons, the first online lesson is rather different to those that follow as Alicia gets to know you and your voice! You'll start by having an informal chat about your vocal and performance history and your goals. Alicia will ask some questions to gauge where you are on your vocal journey. This also gives you a chance to gauge if Alicia is the right teacher for you! She'll then check in and introduce you to basic technique, and you'll have a fun time playing with different parts of your voice. Finally, to give you a taster of how we work with songs, Alicia will ask you to sing something of your choice.

HOW ARE ONLINE LESSONS DIFFERENT TO IN-PERSON LESSONS?

The main difference is the time delay you may experience. For this reason, singing along to Alicia playing exercises or melodies on the piano doesn't happen in real-time as it would in lessons. Instead, we use a lot of call and response - which has the added benefit of being a fantastic way to train your ear!

WHAT IF THERE ARE TECHNICAL PROBLEMS?

Alicia tries to ensure that online lessons run as smoothly as possible, however, sometimes inevitable glitches happen! Prior to your first lesson, Alicia will forward information on how to set up your device preferences. You'll also have a short time before your first online lesson with Alicia to make sure your set-up is as good as it can be.  In the case that your internet drops or other faults occur on your end, or if you join the call late, lesson time will be deducted. If you're having technical difficulties prior to the lesson, please do let Alicia know and she will always do her best to accommodate you, however, a rescheduled lesson can't be guaranteed. If the fault is on Alicia's end, she will provide make-up time for the lesson time lost.
